only the strongest branch

skews straight up

all the others spread out

for a view of the sun

those are the earth’s

marching orders

for light and shade

live by a truce

a movable boundary

for different skin types

thick thin

and the kind that want

to face their fears

live with hot and cold

search for the elusive warm
