a soft thud

3:33 a.m.

(a perfect 3-of-a-kind - what are the chances?)

more attic sounds

boxes kicked and dropped

things tossed to the floor

something well-sized dragged

down the stairs then another

then a third the last and largest

thumps with each step

the noise maker with his

weighty prizes shuffles closer

stops at my closed door

the gentlest tap

I roll over one finger un-crusts one eye

two more delicate knocks in dead silence

I sigh reach for the light switch

knock a pen that rattles to the floor

OK Mind What brilliant idea

have you found that’s so important

for me to write about?!?
