monstrous maples
skyscraping oaks neck-bending elms
their green balm slathers me
I walk invited by the shade
robins that fly
through the silence
fishing for worms
on endless seas of lawn
the youthfulness of June
a vacationing sun
dragging suitcases
of white clouds behind her
an east coast summer
begins as I leave
just a visitor
on old turf
a memory thief
with a bag
of old coins
free to go unnoticed
everyone here
too busy
minting
the present
