To fly with a Butterfly - Sept. 6, 2022

one must first

enter the creature

before the flitting

and flower-finding

the banked turns

the uplifts and nose dives

the out of sights

find the captain

who sits at the controls

works the levers

a pull on one set

to turn one way

another for another

not operating on feelings

but need necessity

a program of survival

though I’ve seen something

once or twice at sunrise

whatever gear was shifted

caused a needless double spin

in a burst of flight

up a young thermal

a move that seemed a lot

like joy
