only passed a couple notes

too well-behaved to talk

behind the teacher’s back

recurring grade of “poor”

staring out the window at the sky’s

everchanging clouds   the hide and seek sun

and trees twisting in the wind

I wonder how many other kids

poorly graded for that faraway look

who became pondering poets

which some still consider

a foolish waste of time

though a poem shaped

and drawn just the right way

is like the creature never seen

that’s calls everyone to the window

amazed   to watch it run before

it uses wings to fly away
