Toronto’s glass and metal towers

prick the blue sky

 

Vancouver’s slick green parks

and flowered streets are a walk

through a painting

 

Banff  the town that sits on a saddle

of mountains is a perfect summer ride

 

the Rocky Mountaineer  a train that

moves mist  cuts through iced peaks

skirts lapis lakes and pine slopes

 

and then there’s my favorite moment

in Canada

 

one plain pigeon and three chickadees

snipping crust  pecking crumbs

 

a bully  two dummies and a trickster

on a sidewalk stage at a café

 

entertaining a crowd of just me
