all advice is swung at and missed

referrals are smacked out-of-bounds

questions never even cross the net

she smashes her racket after every shot

this is tennis no one can win

but I keep booking matches anyway

tell my friend to keep swinging

not to worry where the ball goes

with my job being only

to keep the rallies going

till with one perfect passing shot

a ray of light strikes a shadowed smile
