live in a house a long time

and it becomes like

an old pair of jeans

a perfect fit

slightly worn at the butt

and knees pockets well-used

and slightly stretched

the color fading to a hue

only time can create


that’s why it’s so hard

to move out of a home

and into a new house

it must twist and turn

as you move and bend

flex with you until it

softens enough for you

to slip in and out

with no effort at all
