A Silence that Lingers - Sept. 25, 2022

Gary Hunter

if you’ve ever

jumped from a cliff

into water you know

how you enter the sheet

of liquid is critical

to avoid the pain

of a back or belly flop

keep the arms in

legs straight

and toes pointed

becoming the smallest

slip of flesh you can

concludes with the

neatest and smoothest

finish possible

diving is another level

of expertise with the best

leaving a watery gulp

some trailing bubbles

and a silence that lingers

the first result

is a good poem

the second

a great one
