A Waiting Game - Feb. 16, 2024

the blackened fireplace stands cold

on this gray blanket morning

it’s often a waiting game

for some match to light my day

two fires would be nice

though the one inside me

that burns from the

stockpile of better times

still needs a spark

the flint of a good memory works

if I can only find one

that’s clean and dry
