one’s got gall bladder stones

two have bad backs

another has a tiny tumor on

the pituitary – a tumuitary (my word)

 

I take something for cholesterol

insomnia and hair loss

others have foot issues

a nerve issue  eye problems

 

so yeah  we all bend the knee to

a conglomeration of chemicals

tiny crutches added to the

bloodstream that shuttle the magic

through sighs  limps and groans

into this house of elderhood

 

to those magicians in laboratories

soldiers of healing and cures

we’d like to thank you

 

like

 

a queen blading the shoulders

of a thousand worthy warriors
