An Easy Friend - Oct. 28, 2026

he knocks at the door as the dogs

stage a fake attack, enters as

tails wag, one licks his leg

as he bends with gentle voice

smoothing fur with both hands

Stuart likes cold water, no ice

I get the same as the coffee table

receives both glasses

our sofa conversations have no

boundaries, both serious and funny,

from plants to politics, dogs to our bellies,

my goldfish, weather, people we know,

back to dogs, happiness, teeth, news,

the future, death and more dog talk

no other word than “easy” describes it

he and I are easy friends, our talks

always provoking with no topics

unbroachable, and all repeatable -

same time and place next week

he recently graduated to sparkling water

and I don’t know how bubbles

will affect anything in this relationship

though they seem to produce

more giggles and laughter in children
