a poet should never cage a moment
never grab and hold but free it
flush out what’s there in hiding
and it’s OK to scavenge and rummage
dig a little turn things over stomp a bit
wear your thick-booted curiosity
watch for fur or feathers
that make a dash for freedom
and detail their escape
and as always with poetic value
it will be the author’s skill and dexterity
pitted against the sound of oooooh
from a single stone-faced reader
