Before the World turns Cranky - Nov. 4, 2024

once in awhile rise early on Sunday

when the eastern horizon is still

on fire before that burning ball

rises to paint the mountains orange

it’s the perfect time to meet

your quietest self feel the hand

of silence slide over your mouth

and listen

take a walk through the neighborhood

lingering in a profound deep sleep

or through the local park

that’s where we went today

I find that kind of stillness

a moment beyond description

strolling through a green envelope

every pore wide open

suddenly a car minus a muffler

screams down the street

we keep walking

but the shade no longer whispers

a world abruptly awakened

turns cranky once again
