your job is to greet

and escort anyone across

the street during school hours

 

paid to be friendly and helpful

say hello and wish everyone

excellent days

 

you might guess what

I’m gonna say next

 

we need more crossing guards

posted in places the lonely and

disconnected walk, with hours

from dawn till dusk

 

and you know how you walk

lighter when people see

the good in you
