Who gives up their seat anymore

to one that needs it?

 

forgetting for a moment

the protocols of indifference

the separation of suffering

rules against social kindness

 

I rise in awkwardness, make

the offer, embarrassed by the

scrutiny of my good deed

 

the habit of not caring perhaps

harder to quit than smoking

drinking or drugs

 

and the worst addiction being

the pain inflicted because

of nothing you did
