I LOVE You

to a nice neighbor

our mail carrier or even

that friendly checkout person

but it’s there peering around the Hi

jumping up and down with How’s it going?

a bit of a sad pout saying See Ya

I bet love longs for independence

from the frequently cold

and cautious mouth

that tries to master

its playful unpredictable spirit

take my dog Oliver

who likes to get on laps

work his way up to a face

and do everything to it

but say those words
