boil your eggs

soft or hard

the timer decides

the ticking clock

turns calendars of pictures

that map the distance of a lifetime

water in all its moving parts

starts in drifting clouds

that deal out seasons

every cell of every object pays tax

and time is the collector

existence is indebted to

death is the bankruptcy of moments

a final payment the living make

that clicks the turnstile and exits the game

and every mountain on this earth

has a destiny of sand
