such a dark defeated noun,

don’t you think?

 

like something a boulder would crush

or a guillotine would chop off

 

it’s the sound we associate

with a final fateful ending

 

on the other hand, what if death

is a long curvy fun slide

 

that drops into a playground

with lots of other kids

 

you know, that could easily be

how innocence returns home
