if it happens it will be only once

on your back in a bed

loved ones in a U around you

no longer eye to eye

it will feel strange

glancing up at hovering

faces all directed at you

there’ll be scattered words

with so much more

wanting to be said

but left pooling in their eyes

till yours close

with a last goodbye

and theirs

finally speaking

in tears you’ll never hear
