if it happens it will be only once

on your back in a bed

loved ones in a U around you

no longer eye to eye


it will feel strange

glancing up at hovering

faces all directed at you

there’ll be scattered words


with so much more

wanting to be said


but left pooling in their eyes

till yours close

with a last goodbye


and theirs

finally speaking

in tears you’ll never hear
