within all of us -

the most brilliant and the dumbest

the toughest and gentlest -

are emotions fragile as an egg

that break for no reasonon rainy days

or from a puzzling comment or even

NO said a bit too loudly

one tiny crack and our defenses

rush in to seal the rift

protect the yolk

our precious reservoir of affection

it’s the brave who won’t hurry

to stop the leak don’t fear exposure

knowing the heart is repairable and refillable

by our own tender hands

or with the help of others

or just one with the tools

and the motivation
