to be a tree pulled

from the arms of the earth

ripped from a deeply-rooted

bond and lose all family and friends

and the creatures that visited

your welcoming body

then cut into slivers

attached at odd angles to

become a house that shelters

the life and limbs of

some other being


makes me wonder

who was with me

where I was

and how I lived

before crashing

into this world
