Fish out of Water - Oct. 31, 2024

I panicked when I saw the goldfish

leap onto the bank of my pond

like I did on my 2600 mile drive

to California to start a new life

probably like first-time astronauts

who blast into outer space

or birds that fly over

oceans and mountains

I’m going to give my goldfish

a moment to get her bearings

perhaps she’ll just decide

to flop back into the pond

or maybe an urge will

propel her to do something

no other fish has done before

and I’ll go climb Mr. Everest

then fly over an ocean

and land on the moon
