Gifts Santa didn't Bring - Dec. 8, 2024

I think most people think of gratitude

as the blessedly good luck they’ve had

but is blessed and lucky the same?

Are you only thankful for the role

of dice that landed as a paying pair

for the poker cards played

that were winning hands

or when the Rolette wheel’s ball

landed in a compensating place?

Why not include the bad gambles

the poor choices and risks taken

the debts that left you bereft?

Didn’t they all steel your resolve

put muscle on your back to shoulder

the fear of a new direction?

We’re all a conglomeration of successes

and failures so don’t just be grateful

for all the gifts Santa brought you

Be glad for the ones He didn’t

the ones he made you work for

and even then didn’t deliver

until they arrived and

you no longer needed them
