timid and feeling weird
I approach the front door
after the moving van’s
just pulled away

to deliver to a new couple?
I’ve got a large hand and big smile
Should it also carry
cookies or a tray of lasagna?
and the welcome keep it short
“we’ve got dinner on the stove” or
engage and peak behind the open door
gleaning clues of their personalities
take a few quick judgments
home and pencil them
into my mind
then
after a month or so
make any needed adjustments
in pen and ink
