eyes that burst stars

huge smile just for me

and a love that

wouldn’t let go

when she’d wrap me

in her arms


that was Gramma


as a child

I noticed

she’d suffuse

into a bright lamp

whenever I came near


only later

after she died

finding out

my grandfather’s

brazen infidelity

was her dark prison


and I

who carried a key
