seems only

the skinny ones

make it to 100

which made me think

what if fat could hide out

between toes or behind ears

tuck itself into some unused memories

or unfulfilled dreams jump into

some secret pocket in the body

or perhaps doctor the weights

on the scales at its yearly physical


then it could hang around

for what’s surely coming

---the giant century cake

with ice cream --- and if

the speech is kept short

would give it time

to indulge in

a whole lot

of saccharine


call your buttery body

out of hiding

and hang out

for probably

the last
