I awoke the other day

slow to put my pieces together

went outside to greet the morning

gold-rimmed sun and openhearted

air, sweet with smells only daybreak

can produce

a stranger’s simple “hello” and a

soft bliss washes over me,

godsent in a single word

and in my on and off

relationship with life,

we tumble into love

once again
