when I pay homage

to the broad leaves

of tall trees

in a light breeze

it’s a drowsy scheme

to hope they stay

on a hot day

in a summer way

a lullaby of gratitude

to the made shade

no one would trade

whether fancy lunch

or cool car ride

for a long lay

in the hammock

that awaits

your stay
