It Begs for Something - Aug. 16, 2022

for the unlined notebook

for pages so open and friendly

solitary confinement

is unusually cruel

any kind of attention is welcomed

inky doodles with eyes half open

taking coffee stains from coaster duty

or torn corners leaving with phone numbers

now if a writer happens to pick up

the scent of an idea entering

this empty expanse they may

crouch to examine its tracks

pursue it with thrown nets

of words clean shots

and bad misses

and if lucky

capture a poem

prowling in a paper cage
