I say to my friend, Youth
waving our ticket stubs
beyond eager and excited
as we move to grab front row seats
before the curtain rises
it’s a film about life
a love story we are told
lived in glorious sunrises
under a mysterious moon
that becomes a plot without escape
confused shadows living in hope and despair
flights of wonder tied to landing issues
a bittersweet existence that ends
with every character tracked
and eliminated by death’s knife
I hope no one notices
the flicker on the screen
the two dark blots crossing the projector’s beam
it’s me and my companion leaving the theater
hoping to see if anything else is playing
