between riding the tough buck

on saddled rides of wild

stallions or the soft lift

on feathered backs

of smiling ducks

we shift our grip


careful not to grab

the pogoed pivot point

in the up-and-down melody

and skin the palm or pinch a finger


who didn’t learn that

in their first go round?
