screaming voices

two houses over

a walking couple in combat

use words for swords

stinging opinions from a window

mix with cleaning dishes

is it egos in love or love of ego,

I wonder, as both jockey to pull

ahead and win the race of rightness

which has never seen a winner

in love’s circle

in my relationship, if I try to pull

ahead, I stumble from remorse,

fall back with an apology and let

the other take the lead

our thinking is, it’s a long way

to the finish line, best to save

energy to help each other

farther down the track

especially on the final stretch
