Mortardom - July 21, 2021

My heart goes out

to every brick layer

for their mortaring

and to the possibility

that foul-mouthed brick laying

is a small tribute to God’s

construction of the universe

knowing how difficult it is

for flawed human lives

to build anything that

reaches towards heaven


I cobbled together

a small wall once

that surprisingly still stands

though it will remain a

trade secret - all the things

that came out of my mouth
