 birds who can’t carry a tune

still practice without judgment,

the song of their species

 

most seem to stay busy -

hunt for food, build a nest

feed and defend their young

 

ravens, on the other hand

ignore time, hang out in trees

watch us walk by, often laughing

 

they have also learned the art

of complaining, that hurts the ears

till even the rest of their kind fly off

 

there’s another bird I know, with

lots of free time, claims no melody,

and whines and grumbles a lot

 

I think you know the elderly

of the species and have heard

them enough to sometimes wish

you owned wings
