a poet can observe in

great detail the moods of a

hummingbird yet find themselves

in a stupor  standing in a garage

wondering where the car is

they can tell a tender love story

pluck the perfect heart strings

then tailgate the driver who cut them off

angling for the moment to raise the

correct digit and flash an evil smile

they also tell white lies

engage in gossip

forget to wash their hands

can be quite cruel or worse

indifferent to people’s plight

and yet

once in great awhile

they deliver a poem

that is far better

than it has any right to bea fascinating thing
