Swedish Death Cleaning* - Sept. 12, 2025

how rude and unthinking

to just die and leave closets

full of hanging rayon and cotton

altered to your shape and taste

or a garage stuffed from floor

to rafters ,like a breadless

ham-salad sandwich, and

who eats those anymore

for some who never expelled a single

thing or ever will, they lived with the

hope of finding a “someday” treasure

buried in a thicket of the past

for those left behind, what will they

do with all those things, saved for

rainy days when the owner

ignored the weather anyway?

for the rare few who dumped

every screw and nail, but left

one screw driver and a hammer,

a curl of gratitude, rises to the heavens

* a process (originally practiced in Sweden),

of purging the stuff of the deceased, if not

the pre-deceased doing it themselves
