Thank God for Dorothy!

Gary Hunter

I’ve seen my younger movements

like a scarecrow   loosey goosey

I’ve seen me old and rusted

like a tin man

and haven’t we all tried to follow

our own yellow brick road?

on the way hasn’t a cowardly lion

bitten us in moments we lacked courage?

and thank God for Dorothy   her hope

and happiness there when needed

yes   we’ve all been carried away by

evil flying monkeys   crossed sleepy fields

met wicked witches and some even God

the great and powerful wizard Himself

and after all that adventure

and finally crossing through the gates

of Oz what happens?

we end up

waving goodbye

from a balloon for one
