The Decent Click - Oct. 31, 2023

I walk a flowered path

stop at the front door

and knock someone’s

peering out the peephole

a shadow blocks its light

but I’m not selling

the pair of mangoes

I’m holding up

“I grow way too many of these

- you want some?”

the door swings open

hands pull in the fruit

close enough for a deep inhale

gratitude descends from

her lips a wavy smile

I just love leaving a house

on a path that meanders

through a cascade of nature

and says goodbye with

the decent click of a gate
