The Invitation - Nov. 7, 2021

what made it terrifying

was the envelope

of provocative music

it came in

but love was too alluring

sweet-talked me to its hand

and onto the dance floor

without knowing the

intricate steps or subtle movements

of this unfamiliar rumba

I bungled through my first few songs

but later found my feet

floating above the floor

arms waving in the drunken air

that’s when I realized

this slip-rhythm

pop-lock-boogie fool

would never again play

the wallflower
