life vs life is how it’s set up,

built into every creature

and every moment, survive

and if cornered, fight

or run for your life

and then there’s us, sometimes

angry chimpanzees who raid

to kill and eat other’s meat

other times, share fruit

and groom one another with

utmost care, totally at peace

God or whoever did this arranging,

it would have been nice to blend

more love into the life of man

or maybe just left out the sharp teeth

and hateful appetites

maybe as vegetarians we would

have been nicer to each other

more molars would help us chew

as we ponder our next move
