the young couple’s future sways

as their feet leave the floor

 

love swings ever higher

with grand plans

 

the wood slats where they sit

creak between kisses

 

they stop, rise together

one wedges through the front door

the other gently through a side gate

 

and the porch swing whispers

ever slower and slower

a lonely goodbye
