The Start of Wisdom - Sept. 7, 2022

the rabbit stops feeding

so close to me

a sudden statue

thin green blades

stick to a white chest

and dead clinging grass

the makeup of her back

she’s bigger now growing fast

possibly a teenager

always the age

that defies authority

her mother’s words

always always run

when you see them!

but today she is

defiant and foolish

standing her ground

as we walk by I see

the coiled thigh muscles

relax into an arch of soft fur

and perhaps the hint

of a smirk that cocky

smile of the young

which someday

maybe sooner maybe later

will flee with her legs

in a death dash to safety

her place

mama’s place

home
