when our strength is measured
against another’s weakness
where we don’t test well is answering
angry phrases with understanding words
or hard hits with patient touches
so everyone write an essay on how
the word “giving” merged into forgiving
those who grade less than a C-
need to go back over their notes
and practice their homework
before re-taking the exam
they’ll keep the tutor on call
for the days when a big zero
knocks us back to the lesson
