a thought isn’t yet a word

which we usually edit before we speak

edit a bit more before we write

and edit even more before we read

to others as a well-checked idea


much like a well-made fire

a poem chooses good wood

then with proper blocking and building

becomes a shape that creates

the burn that we want


ultimately though

it is heat they want
