I just bet in that whole sloppy

seafood soup we call the brain

there’s probably a thimble of broth

which moves us to take bad chances

do stupid things  lie and cheat

 

perhaps it’s just a thirst for danger

or daring when everything’s going well

the decision to take a hot forbidden

sip from the bottom of the full bowl

and scald our tongue

 

no one forgets the feeling

of cowering in forgiveness

 

a cure worse than any
