very young  I tried to be loved

by everyone  thank you life

for scissoring that naivete

into a stiff wind

I also wanted to grow up

quickly  adults seemed so

together  smarter  in control

and yes  happier

turned out everyone wears a mask

what they pretend to be

covers the face

of who they really are

it took a very long time

for me to accept myself

how I fit in and understand

the rules of the social game

so now I like to break them

as often as I can

remove my disguise

and reveal my true character

I’m a kid looking for a buddy

willing to stop what they’re doing

and throw a few spitballs at life
