the barest shoulder of a sunrise dawn in a negligée Gracie Oliver and I pass

a picture window three aged

walkers walking old legs swung not stepped tilted and teetered the slow scrape of a nail a shoe drag heads down the ground beckons a sniff and stop I push-pull them on won’t let this morning look like a death march life is precious someday I’ll think that watching the ceiling

taking my last ounce of breath
