my nephew
the disappointed tike who
couldn’t throw it high enough
to reach the rim
then shot 3’s under pressure
now wears a badge
and a game face at gametime
on the street’s courts
the scoreless score
he tries to keep close
cuz bad guys get streaky
hot shooters have a supple wrist
but he’s ready for anything
defense to offense
the quick dribble drive
a layup would be nice
but a stop and pop more likely
anything for a clean shot
though he’ll settle for a miss
if he’s got them
falling back
on their heels
