When a Christmas tree wants Christmas to be Over - Jan. 7, 2025

all gifts and glowing faces

are gone   dead needles course

throughout the house

the tree leans a bit left like

an old man needing a cane

the silver and gold balls

need dusting before boxing

there’s a sad droop to the branches

made even sadder on cloudy days

and like the life of cheap things

the garland will be pulled and tossed

the pine creature looks ready

and has been for awhile

and would prefer to get it

over with quickly

dragged to the curb

like the Roman soldiers

did to Jesus’ after his life

of forgiveness and salvation

uniquely purposed lives

never seem to last

and I heard the crows

never bothered him either
